GotPrint.com impressed us with their double sided business cards. We were comforted by email updates on the status of our business cards. Interaction with the GotPrint.com website was easy and the feedback was appropriate.

 

GotPrint.com offers 3 ways to order business cards from their website:

• Upload your own file
• Input your info into a pre-designed template
• Professional graphic design

Each format has a different pricing structure. In this month’s review, we will be reviewing the process of uploading a file to GotPrint.com.

The website advertises its ability to turn you print ready digital file into a business card. The supported formats include .TIF, .TIFF, .EPS, .AI, .PSD, .JPG, .PNG, and .PDF. We designed our card in the popular design application Adobe Illustrator, which saves its files as .ai. We uploaded our .ai file to GotPrint.com.

GotPrint.com has a no-frills approach to its form design, however we appreciated its efficiency. There are several options available for the business cards:

Paper

GotPrint.com prints all of its business cards on 3.5″x2″ 14Point heavy card stock. There are two choices available for paper - neither choice affects the cost of your business cards:

• Gloss cover with UV coating
• Premium uncoated cover

The gloss cover with UV coating prevents ink from rubbing off and gives a high gloss finish. In contrast, the premium uncoated cover is a simple matte finish. The benefit of a glossy finish is that it will make the photographs on your business card look like they were processed at a professional photography lab. The downfall of the glossy finish is that the protective surface that prevents the ink on the card from rubbing off also prevents you from writing on the glossy surface of the card.

GotPrint.com also provides the option to have rounded corners instead of squared corners. There is a significant cost for having the luxury of smooth and round corners (prices are for 1000 cards, full color both sides):

• Squared corners - $27.95
• Rounded corners - $45.95

We chose the 14Point heavy card stock with a premium uncoated cover because we wanted to be able to write on our cards, and with squared corners because they look more professional.

Color

GotPrint.com prints in the industry standard CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) color mode. In this menu you choose which surfaces of the card will be printed on:

• Color front, no back
• Color front, B&W back
• Color front, color back

The choices here are entirely dependent on your card layout and your budget. However, the cost of printing on both sides of your card is not prohibitively expensive. For 1000 business cards, the cost is $24.95 without a back and $27.95 for a full color back. At businesscard-reviews.com we recommend using both sides of your business card because it provides twice as much space to include information about you and what you do for only $3 additional cost.

We chose to have a color on both sides of our card, in keeping with our layout.

Quantity

The quantity of business cards that you purchase depends on your needs. Like all online business card printers, GotPrint.com has a pricing scheme that rewards buying in bulk. By purchasing greater quantities of business cards, the cost per card decreases (see our price chart at the end of this review). The available quantities include:

Turnaround

How soon do you need your cards? Gotprint.com has 2 options for how quickly it will print it cards:

• Rush order - 2 business days after approval
• Standard order - 2-7 business days after approval

It took 6 business days to ship my standard order of 500 business cards. It took another 4 days for the business cards to arrive my address. Overall, it took exactly 2 weeks to receive my business cards from GotPrint.com. This seems a little slow, but I was not able to justify paying twice as much ($60) to receive my cards in half the time (one week instead of two weeks).

Final Product

The final business card is flawless. The colors are uniform within each card and compared to other cards. The paper is firm, weighted nicely, and had no ragged edges. The premium uncoated surface is smooth and easy to write on with a standard ballpoint or rollerball pen.

Conclusion

GotPrint.com produced a high quality business card. The process of having a business card printed by GotPrint.com was relatively simple. The website lacks bells-and-whistles, however, we were impressed with the efficiency of the online forms and that information was placed in plain view.

While we were impressed with the feedback about the progress of our business card order, we were disappointed that it took 2 weeks to received our business cards.
